The Songs We Give Our Children Today Become Their Inner Voice Tomorrow

We all know the power of music. A single song can bring back childhood memories, shift our mood, or inspire us to act. For children, music is even more powerful—it shapes how they see themselves and their world.

Early childhood is when the brain is most open and flexible. What children hear repeatedly during this time becomes part of their inner voice for life. Neuroscience shows that affirmations—positive, repeated statements—literally form brain pathways that make those ideas easier to access later. Add music and rhythm, and those ideas stick even more deeply. What children sing, they practice—and what they practice, they become. Singing positive words helps children wire positive lives.

That’s why I created Songs to Grow By, a series of affirmation-based songs for children ages 4–10. These simple, joyful melodies help kids develop confidence, kindness, resilience, gratitude, and a sense of belonging—without feeling like they’re “learning.” They’re just singing.

Why Music Works
Children remember what they sing far more easily than what they hear spoken. Songs like:
“I can do hard things, yes I can. Step by step, I’ll try again,” don’t just sound nice—they strengthen neural pathways linked to confidence and persistence. Music engages memory, emotion, movement, and even the brain’s “feel-good” chemicals, making those positive messages natural and automatic.

Early Seeds Grow Strong Trees
Both Torah wisdom and psychology teach that early life is like planting seeds: nurture them well, and they grow strong and straight. If we plant positive messages of safety, kindness, and self-worth early on, those beliefs take root and shape how children approach challenges for years to come.

What’s in the Album?
Seven original tracks focus on key life themes: gratitude (Thank You, God/Hashem), self-worth (I’m So Bright), resilience (I Can Do Hard Things), empathy (Kindness Starts With Me), emotional safety (I Am Safe, I Am Strong), curiosity (The World is Full of Wonders), and love (My Heart is Full of Love).

A Small Action, A Big Impact
Singing together at home or in school might seem simple, but research shows it can reduce stress, improve social skills, and even boost compassion. When kids sing about kindness and courage, they’re more likely to act with kindness and courage.

Songs to Grow By launched on Monday, August 4th on Kickstarter. You can hear song samples and support the project [here].
Let’s offer children music with lasting messages—the songs they learn now shape the stories they tell themselves in the future.
